Yvette Atienza is widely recognized as one of the pioneers of jazz vocals in Singapore.
In the early 90s, when Singapore was growing its economy, there was a little burgeoning jazz scene that was growing in tandem, and Yvette Atienza was the most active jazz vocalist then, spearheading an intense dedication and commitment to helping to grow and develop the jazz movement in Singapore. A regular resident singer in the top jazz clubs, hotels and nightclubs performing with local jazz stars Louis Soliano, Jeremy Monteiro, Don Gomes and Billy Martinez in and around Singapore and Southeast Asia, Yvette was one of the most innovative and inspired singers in the jazz scene, with her imaginative improvisations and creative scat entertaining audiences here and abroad.
To date, her unwavering commitment and dedication to the jazz art form has remained steadfast. Aside from being able to sing fluently in seven living languages – English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Filipino and dabbling in Malay and Mandarin, her improvisational style has grown into a real language. A multi-genre performer in jazz, R&B, pop, musical theatre and opera, Yvette’s forte lies in jazz and latin jazz, which has led her to be a highly-sought after performer at jazz events and festivals in and around Singapore and in the local jazz venues like SingJazz and Blujaz.
Aside from regularly performing, Yvette is a dedicated and passionate music educator. With a Trinity Guildhall Voice Diploma, Yvette runs her own vocal studio training aspiring singers and professionals alike from Singapore and other countries. She is also currently the Head Vocal Teacher at Verve Music School.
