Audio-Technica Co-Presents: Gentle Bones Sold Out EP Launch
Singapore - Gentle Bones’ debut EP launch, co-presented by Audio-Technica on the 30th August saw a packed-out TAB Singapore. The snaking queue started sixty minutes before the start of the concert, and approximately 700 people gathered in anticipation to catch Gentle Bones (a.k.a. Joel Tan) and his band performing songs off his new self-titled EP, Gentle Bones.
This debut self-titled EP is one of the most awaited releases of 2014. The “pop-folk” EP is highly driven by visceral thoughts, of what Joel puts across as his style of doing music without conscious reflection. Gentle Bones has already established himself as one of the top upcoming artistes in Singapore’s English music scene. With the release of his first two singles, he has received strong support from local radio stations such as 987FM, Power 98, Hot FM 91.3 and Lush99.5FM.
Audiences were treated to both a visual and aural spectacle as Gentle Bones thrilled his fans with all his original works and some of his favorite covers, including a reworked version of Ed Sheeran’s, “Give Me Love”. A massive post event meet and greet session held after the show for fans of Gentle Bones lasted for nearly 1.5 hours.
Gentle Bones enthralled the crowd on the 5000 series Artist Elite Wireless System with a AE6100 capsule from Audio-Technica, which he is currently endorsing. Mark Spencer, FOH Sound Engineer from BigBoys Studio raved, ‘Joel was on a AE6100 capsule and I spent the whole day thinking that it was a condenser capsule just because of the sheer amount of presence, clarity and dynamism that thing has. Unbelievable. That microphone did a wonderful job in catching everything from his really low register emotive stuff to dealing with the high-energy numbers. You have to understand that Joel is pretty much Gentle Bones - that this was his show and his vocals had to sit on top of a 6 piece band. That microphone truly delivered.
Gentle Bones’ band setup included four backup singers, three electric guitarists, a violinist, keyboardist and drummer. Gentle Bones and the 6-piece band required an array of Audio-Technica wireless equipment and microphones for the concert. Chen Jinfu, Senior Business Development Executive from Audio-Technica (S.E.A.) was also on-site before the concert to oversee the set up of the equipment. Mark Spencer explained, “Jinfu essentially took the Gentle Bones rider and worked out what he thought would work best for the show. The fact that I was unsure of the characteristics of the microphones lead to there even different types of snare, vocal and kick drum microphones provided! With limited setup time before sound check it was amazing to think that we had every little detail of the microphones worked out. So in summary the experience working with Audio-Technic was nothing short of amazing.”
The versatility of Audio-Technica’s ATM350 clip-on microphone was also something that stood out the most for Mark, “I have this thing where I just have to get tons of attack on the toms but then often lose a huge chunk of the body in doing so - But the ATM350 changed all that. Loads of nice attack as expected from a condenser but then it still has ridiculous amounts of body to it. Jinfu also recommended it to mic the bottom of the snare drum and it was literally just high-pass filter and job done. But to top it off, Josh, the violin player also uses it on his acoustic violin. What a piece of work that microphone is. “
