Audiophile Closed-Back Dynamic Wooden Headphones
Our Wooden Headphones series has been delivering natural, acoustic sound with rich overtones for more than 20 years. The ATH-AWAS employs Asada Zakura housing to suppress unwanted resonance inside the earcups, allowing you to enjoy high-quality natural sound along with the unique beauty of the wood. Since our first model of wooden headphones, the ATH-W10VTG in 1996, we have developed a variety of different woods for use in our headphones. With the unique beauty of their grains and their superb tonal qualities, our wooden headphones provide a clear, warm, wide-open sound. The ATH-AWAS adopts Ostrya Japonica wood, known as Asada Zakura, one of the most acclaimed materials from our wooden headphone history.
Asada Zakura, a beautiful yet durable wooden material
Asada Zakura is a rare, traditional Japanese wood that has grown over 100 years to reach its maturity. This specialist wood is renowned for its use in high-end audio speakers due to its fine acoustic characteristics as well as superior durability. The ATH-AWAS offers a warm, classic red housing color with a gentle wood grain. The striking aesthetics of the Asada Zakura wood make every pair of ATH-AWAS headphones unique. Featuring a half-gloss finish, applied by hand, the wood’s appearance will continue to change over time – a development you can enjoy along with your music.
Excellent audio with a well-balanced frequency response
Exclusive 53mm drivers are designed to maximize the sound characteristics of Asada Zakura, with its rich overtones, gentle low range, and high-definition in the middle-to high-range frequencies.
D.A.D.S (Double Air Damping System) (PAT.)
Audio-Technica’s unique technology, employed throughout our range of hi-fi closed back headphones, divides the housing structure into two separate acoustic chambers for smooth bass reproduction.
Detachable A2DC connectors
The detachable connectors have been designed for exceptional audio quality and durability. They provide a secure connection for stable signal transmission and are built to handle long listening sessions.
Balanced connection-compatible (for better channel separation)
In addition to a 3.0m detachable cable with 6.3mm plug, a 3.0m detachable balanced cable with XLR connector is included to provide compatibility with the latest hi-fi listening technology. OFC wire, a high purity, oxygen-free copper, is used for a high-quality sound transmission.
Magnesium alloy arm
The lightweight and highly rigid headphone housing arm is made of magnesium alloy. The angle of the arm has been designed to provide the best fit for these closed-back headphones, improving the earcup seal so that all reproduced sound can be heard.
Smooth, synthetic leather headband and earpads
With a smooth touch and feel, the synthetic leather seals in sound and provides a comfortable fit for long listening sessions.
These headphones are hand-assembled at our factory in Naruse, Tokyo, where all of our wooden headphones have been produced. The wooden housings’ natural half-gloss finish is carefully polished and painted one by one by hand.
