Audio-Technica Launches Its New Wooden Headphones – Kokutan & Asada Sakura

ATH-AWKT (Kokutan) housing is made of fine ebony (striped) wood with a beautiful grain presence and a natural acoustic characteristic. Ebony has been used for many music instruments such as guitars, flutes, oboe and more. This headphone delivers a special “aura” with its striped grain and great sounded sonically.
ATH-AWAS (Asada Sakura) housing is made of Japanese cherry wood named “Asada Sakura”, a beauty traditional wood that has been adopted for luxuty furnitures previously. This model delivers a great classy red finish which compromises of an “artful” grain details with a superb acoustic sound.

With the recent trend in the Hi-Fi market, these headphones come with a detachable balanced cable with XLR plug and a standard detachable cable with φ6.3 mm stereo plus to achieve a Hi-Fi listening sound.

- New Exclusive Driver-Unit – Adopting Audio-Technica’s traditional technologies from our 53mm driver, D.A.D.S.(Double Air Damping System), an exclusive design driver-unit was made to create a wider sound field with the highest purity of sound.
- Ebony Wood: Material with Great Acoustic Characteristics – Ebony is excellent in acoustic characteristics and has been used for piano and wind-wood instruments. With Ebony, one can avoid unclear-sound by suppression of unwanted resonance.
- Magnesium Alloy Arm – Lightweight and high-rigidity. The angle of the housing and arm is also revised for better comfort, making it easy for long hours of listening.
- Balanced Connector – L/R channel separating sound for Hi-Fi listening with a detachable balanced cable of XLR plug. Cables made of 6NOFC wires, giving a high-definition and powerful sound listening.

D.A.D.S. (Double Air Damping System)
Audio-Technica’s unique technology, employed throughout our range of hi-fi closed-back headphones, divides the housing structure into two separate acoustic chambers for smooth bass reproduction.
Magnesium alloy arm
The lightweight and highly rigid headphone housing arm is made of magnesium alloy. The angle of the arm has been designed to provide the best fit for these closed-back headphones, improving the earcup seal so that all reproduced sound can be heard.
Sheep skin earpads and headband
Smooth, high-durability sheep skin is used for the stitched, ergonomic earpads and the headband, providing a comfortable fit for long listening sessions.

Ebony (Striped)
Ebony is used for luxurious furnities, wind-instruments and piano, which provides a super acoustic characteristics and suppresses vibrations. Besides being a damping material, it helps to avoid unwanted distortion and hence, making a clear sound.

The detachable connectors have been designed for exceptional audio quality and durability. They provide a secure connection for stable signal transmission and are built to handle long listening sessions.
Balanced connection-compatible (for better channel separation)
In addition to a 3.0m detachable cable with 6.3mm plug, a 3.0m detachable balanced cable with XLR connector is included to provide compatibility with the latest hi-fi listening technology. 6N-OFC wire, a high-purity, oxygen-free copper, is used for both cables to a high-quality sound transmission.
Japanese craftsmanship
These headphones are hand-assembled at our factory in Naruse, Tokyo, where all of our wooden headphones have been produced. The wooden housings’ natural half-gloss finish is carefully polished and painted one by one by hand.
